FAQ

Q: What is the showcase and is it mandatory to attend?

A: The showcase is a tool that we use to make the teams as equal as possible.  This helps foster friendly competition in a fair and balanced manner.

By assessing the players and then having a draft, we can review various skill levels on all teams and prevent teams from being all "star players" or "inexperienced/novice". We encourage all to attend as this keeps the teams well balanced. Should you have to miss (life happens!) then your child will be placed on a team randomly.

Q  Will my game be at the same time every week?

A  No, most divisions have their games scheduled throughout the day on Saturday between the hours of 8:00AM and 6:00PM or in the case of the Senior Division, between 8:00PM and midnight.  Your game can take place at any time during the hours in which your division plays.

Q  How can I volunteer to coach?

A  You can do this through the registration process. There is a spot to indicate that you would like to help coach. Easy!

Q  Will there be a practice during the week in addition to my game?

A  No, the league operates the games only.  The Pipsqueaks, Juniors and Sophomores will often have a short practice during their game time and  the BMO Centre does offer another program called the BMO Academy (formerly known as Skills and Drills) for those who are interested in further developing their skills.  For more information, please CLICK HERE

Q  How long are the games?

A  For the Pipsqueaks, Juniors & Sophomores, there is a 15 minute practice and 2x20 minute halves.  For the Intermediates and up there are 2x25 minute halves.

Q What time on Saturdays do the Pipsqueaks play?

A Pipsqueeks play between noon and 2:00 pm every Saturday. Subject to change depending on enrollment.

Q: What are the game times on Saturdays for other age groups (non-Pipsqueaks)? Will my child play at the same time each week?

A: All other age groups will play between 8:00 am – 6:00 pm. and game times will fluctuate from week to week. Generally speaking, the older age groups would play the later time slots but this is not carved in stone and can change.

Q:  Are the players placed on the same team for the entire season (Oct. - Apr.)?

A: Yes. Players will stay on the same team for the entire season.

Q:  How can I apply for a subsidy if I cannot afford the registration fee?

A: There are two programs that help with registration fees. You can only apply to one or the other; not both:  Jumpstart or KidSport

Jumpstart or KidSport processes take some time from when you apply to when your funding arrives. (sometimes 6-8 weeks)

Here is the general process and you will apply to only one of these two sites:

  1. You register your child for our soccer program on-line. Payment in full is required at that time
  2. You apply for your Jumpstart of KidSport funding through their websites:
  3. Jump Start:  https://jumpstart.canadiantire.ca/pages/individual-child-grants
  4. KidSport: https://kidsportcanada.ca/ontario/hearst/apply-for-a-grant/
  5. When/if your application is approved by Jumpstart or Kidsport, a cheque will be sent payable to Southwest Optimist Indoor Soccer for the amount you have been approved
  6. When BMO Centre receives the cheque, we will then process your refund back on to the credit card used for the amount funded

We hope this helps simplify the process for you. If you have any further questions, don’t hesitate to contact us.
